Hi! Welcome to the STEM Academy Paper. My name is Cherry, and I used to hate writing. But here I am writing a blog for a newspaper that I want to start. Voluntarily. If you want to find out how I ended up here, keep reading. And even if you don't, keep reading. I promise it's interesting.
As a child, although I did pretty well on most of my writing assignments, I hated writing. Or maybe I should say, I hated writing essays. Every month there would be a new writing prompt for which every student in my class would have to sit down for an hour and a half and forcefully write an essay. Maybe I didn't mind writing, but I just hated being forced to write about topics that were of no interest to me. As a fifth-grader, Taylor Swift was my idol. I adored her. So, I started to write songs. Although I would only ever write about my love for bagels and cheese puffs, those songs were what sparked my interest in writing. As the years progressed, I took up writing more poetry and occasionally an entry for the New York Times summer contests. Writing became what I would resort to when I needed to put my complex thoughts into words.
Around 9th grade, politics became one of my obsessions. Put politics and opinionated writing together, and you have a news article. That's how this newspaper came to be. After seven years of being a high school, Stem Academy still didn't have a school newspaper, and I wanted to change that. I have met so many people at school who have no idea what's going on in the local community, let alone the nation or the world. I want to make sure that everyone at my school has the opportunity to know what is going on in the world around them, and what better way to guarantee that opportunity, than to start my own newspaper?
Nicely done, Cherry! I look forward to reading more of your writing!
