He stopped under the lamp post, and the light seemed to ignite her flushed skin into flames.
Her heart pumped with fragile beats as hot tears
pricked her eyes.
His words were quick stabs of pain, and she knew by his tone that he didn’t care anymore.
Her heart tripped and stumbled as her blood turned
into ice under her skin.
He sent blow after blow, and she could see in his eyes the swirling clouds of burning anger.
Her heart sank like an anchor as her swollen throat
filled with cotton balls.
Before she thought it couldn’t get any worse, he reached out and grabbed her glass heart.
It’s cracks and chips shuddered under his fingertips as
he smashed it on the concrete.
It shattered, scattering into a million pieces across the
dark pavement, the glass glittering like tears
underneath the light.
